Habitat: Bogs, fens, wetlands and seeps, nitrogen-poor areas.

Form: Herb

Flower: Purple-red flower

Foliage: Insectivorous plant. Leaves fused into water-holding vessels lined with downward pointing hairs attract and then trap insects.

Notes: A variant, the Yellow pitcher-plant, Sarracenia purpurea ssp. heterophylla, is Threatened in Michigan.
